Born in Perth, Western Australia and based in the bush in Chittering, Western Australia, Marnie’s inspiration is found in her own backyard comprised of native jarrah and banksia woodland where she observes flora and fauna which often feature in her work. Surrounded by paint, canvas, brushes and palette knives from an early age, Marnie’s arts emersion was continually fostered by her Mother and established artist and teacher Jeanette Giroud. Marnie studied visual art and media at Edith Cowan University, followed by a teaching diploma at Curtin University. Marnie is a professional member of the Australian Cartoonists Association. Giroud produces and teaches art through her business Eco Gecko – Environment & Design and creates art, environment and education projects. Marnie worked in mixed media, wire and metal sculpture, painting, drawing and digital art. Her cartoon series Tall Tales from the Northern Valleys featured in a regional newspaper for several years. While small sculptures have always played a part in Giroud’s body of work, she now focusses on works with conservation messages. Her Conservation Cartoons are assisting Gilbert’s Potoroo Action Group, The Australian Citizen Science Association and Conservation Council of Western Australia to reach community with critical conservation messages through cartoons. Exhibiting and curating in several shows in regional and metropolitan Western Australia, her works have been acquired for both private and public collections. Part proceeds from the sale of her work that depict wildlife are donated to conservation and rescue organisations.
Marnie's studio is in nature wherever that is around the world. From theAmazon jungle in South America to the jarrah banksia woodlands of Chittering.
