Ross Ellis has always been a creator, with a particular affinity to artisanal practices and fine craftsmanship. Although also an accomplished woodworker, Ross is well known in the artistic community as a textile artist, winning awards and being nationally exhibited for his work with thread and fabrics. A member of Contemporary Quilters Group and the WA Quilters Association, he’s very used to a creative environment dominated by women, and has always tended to stand out in the crowd and has managed to hold his own. His Open Studios display represents a selection of his impressive dresses, bags, hats and more, featuring detailed hand and machine embroidery and an array of decorative sewing techniques. Well recognised for the lavish wardrobe created for his late wife Vanna, who passed very recently, this collection is also intended to celebrate the beautiful collection made in her honour.

Ross has a "weekender" abode at this property, owned by his daughter Polla, in Chittering. The studio is by the house, at the end of a winding, picturesque drive through natural bush surroundings. It was converted from a modern double garage by Polla and her husband to a rustic, old-timey shopfront, as were some of the other surrounding structures. The air-conditioned, roomy space is an amazing place to create art and the wild-west style buildings often cause comment with visitors. There's a place to tie up your horse if that's your mode of transport!
