I grew up in a household where finding pins on the floor was a daily hazard, and I thought everyone had a stash of fabric, yarn, embroidery threads and textile projects on the go. I learned to stitch and sew and crochet at the knees of my mother, grandmothers and great aunts who all encouraged my textile pursuits alongside their own. After making clothes for my dolls when I was very young I’ve branched out to many more textile techniques over the years. These days I live on a rural property north of Bindoon with a large vegie garden and an even larger light and airy studio space, surrounded by birds and trees and nature. It is nature that provides much of my inspiration. My creative practice is broad and varied and at any given time I might be working on machine embroidery, quilting, dyeing using plants and leaves, printing, crocheting, dressmaking, making cyanotype images with plants, or upcycling used textiles into something new. Sometimes (often) many of these are on the go at once. So if you are looking for me and you can’t find me in my studio, I’m probably in my garden. Or building stone walls. Or planting trees for wildlife corridors. Like I said, my creative practice is broad and varied. Demonstration of the Cyanotype process on fabric (if the sun is shining) Demonstration using balga (grasstree) resin on fabric to create a landscape

During Open Studios you will find a wide array of textile based artwork including painted landscapes on fabric made with balga/grass tree/xanthorrhoea resin, eco dyed scarves, cyanotype images on fabric made using plants plus a few cyanotype pendants, some little stitched or coiled pots, rag rug samples including a have-a-go one, machine embroidered trees on fabric from a 100 day project, wool yarn hand dyed using plants, and possibly a few surprises. Feel free to bring some hand stitching, crochet, knitting or mending and enjoy some creative making time in a sunny window looking out on nature. Find a special piece of art to purchase and take home with you, ask about workshop opportunities, get your dressmaking or learn-to-sew questions answered, or simply enjoy a cuppa while you get inspired. If the sun is shining, I will demo the cyanotype process at 12.30pm each day and then at 2pm I’ll be demonstrating using balga resin on fabric to create a landscape for later stitching.
